How We Use the Information We Collect and Store

Information gathered by Marianopolis from its website is used only to understand how people use our site, so that we may continually improve the organization and content. It will also be used to monitor the site for security purposes.

Your email address will be used only to respond to you. In a case where the appropriate response must come from another entity, your email address will be forwarded to them so that they may reply to you. Survey information is used only as specified on the survey form, usually to improve services offered by the College or by third parties who offer services to the College community. Information that you volunteer on an online form is used only for the purpose stated on the form, usually to enable College processes or services, or to authenticate you for security purposes and keep your sensitive information such as marks or financial information private.

Except as otherwise stated above, information gathered by the website is used only within the College and is never divulged to third parties unless the College is obliged to do so as a result of a court order, search warrant or other legal obligation.

Your Options Regarding Personal Information

It is up to you whether to disclose personal information through this website. Personal information is defined as information about an individual which readily identifies that person and includes an individual’s name, address or phone number. An internet domain name or IP address is not considered personal information. We do not collect any personal information unless you provide it of your own free will by sending us email, filling in an online form, or participating in a survey. You may choose not to do any of these things while using the site. Such choice will not compromise your ability to browse the Marianopolis site or download information from it.

Applets and Cookies

Cookies are text files placed on your computer by a website to store session and login information, and can be used to store personal information volunteered by you. Applets are programs downloaded to your computer which are used to enhance the browsing experience or to display information in a unique manner. Unless otherwise specified on the page in question, it is not necessary for you to accept cookies or applets in order to use this site, but choosing not to accept them may adversely affect the appearance of the site on your computer. Consult the documentation that came with your browser for information on how to configure your computer to refuse cookies and applets.

Security

The Marianopolis College website is a part of the academic network, and the server is physically located on campus. This means that information gathered by the site is not stored on the College’s internet service provider’s (ISP) equipment. While it is in transit through the Internet between your computer and our server, it can, in theory, be intercepted by third parties. This is the case with all websites and Marianopolis cannot be responsible for data intercepted in this way. In order to safeguard private information such as marks, we employ Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption on web based applications which are deemed sensitive. SSL encrypts your session “end to end” and prevents interception. Other security measures have also been taken by the College to safeguard the integrity of data and to prevent unauthorized access to our systems and information as well as provide reasonable protection of private information in our possession.

While there is no such thing as a 100% secure network, rest assured that all reasonable measures have been taken.
